Town View by Don Hebert Shimmering bays, powdery white beaches,| towering green hills, languorous climate,| cosmopolitan lifestyle, unsurpassed shopping| – this is St. Thomas. Nature's beauty and man's| bounty all rolled into one. The capital of the Virgin| Islands is Charlotte Amalie, a charming and gracious| town named in 1692 for the Queen of Denmark.|

A natural deep-water port, it has one of the most stunningly beautiful harbors in the| world. Green hills dotted with homes rise above it, and to the North, away from| town spans a lush tropical terrain graced by the Photo of couple walking on the beach by Steve Simonsen picturesque beauty of Magen's| Bay Beach.

And in the midst of all this beauty, is an island that| knows how to have fun. St. Thomas is definitely| the liveliest of the three Virgins with diversions that| include everything from sightseeing and shopping to| sailing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing and| Illustration of Seahorse kayaking. Or simply pick a warm| sandy spot and "cool" out.|

White sand beaches dot the St.| Thomas coast line. Public access to any beach on St. Thomas and all| three U.S. Virgin Islands is protected by law.World-famous Magens| Bay has been called by National Geographic, "one of the 10 most| beautiful beaches in the world." Many hotels are directly on the| beach and have food and beverage vendors, as well as chair,| umbrella and water toy rentals. Other popular beaches include Coki Point, Lindbergh| Bay, Morningstar Bay and Brewer's Bay.   Sapphire Beach   is popular, particularly| on Sunday.   Hull Bay   is known as the best surfing beach.|
